Sun and sand
With a coastline stretching almost 7000 kilometres, there are plenty of picture-perfect beaches to experience in Queensland.
Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsundays is consistently ranked in the world’s top 10. Brilliant white sand and turquoise waves create a masterpiece that’s almost too good to be true, and the beauty of nearby Hill Inlet has to be seen to be believed. Perfect as a day-trip from nearby Hamilton Island—pick an early tour to beat the crowds.
On the Gold Coast there’s the ever-popular Surfer’s Paradise, a 3 kilometre strip of golden sand backed by the amazing city skyline, looking out to a dreamy horizon. Families, couples, and friends alike will enjoy the vibrant atmosphere with lifeguards on patrol year-round.
For the trend-setters Noosa exudes beachside chic, with calmer waves and a more relaxed vibe. Venture into the Noosa National Park to find a picnic spot among the rocks and unbeatable views, then head back to Hastings Street for some boutique shopping and gourmet eats.
If you’re longing for adventure head north to the tropical paradises of Cairns, Palm Cove or Port Douglas.
Set not too far apart, these three destinations are the gateway to the Daintree, the world’s oldest rainforest. Immerse yourself in the ancient emerald beauty and catch a glimpse of the elusive cassowary. There are wildlife experiences aplenty, from crocodiles to butterflies to bats, as well as stunning scenery and secret waterholes to cool off in. Cairns is also the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, another unmissable natural wonder. For an intimate experience try one of the snorkelling tours!
If you’re holidaying in the south but still seeking a rainforest fix, just 45 minutes inland from the sun and sand of the Gold Coast is another world entirely. Springbrook National Park is a lush wilderness formed by an ancient volcanic eruption, paradise for nature-lovers and adventurers. Get ready for crystal waterfalls, huge strangler figs, and caves lit by glow-worms. There are excellent walking and hiking trails for beginners to the more advanced.
The exclusive tropical village of Palm Cove is something of a hidden gem—far enough away from the bustling hubs of Port Douglas and Cairns to give it that out-of-the-way allure, but not so far to be inaccessible.
At only 30-minutes from Cairns, you’ll have the wonders of Tropical North Queensland at your fingertips, but why would you ever want to leave? World-class resorts, gourmet dining with stunning views of the Coral Sea along William’s Esplanade and a lush tropical golf course. Palm Cove was also nicknamed Spa Central of Australia thanks to the abundance of spas all within walking distance of the main strip. It is great for weddings, honeymoons or simply luxurious stays!
