Day 1:

Day 1: Australia – Fly – Hanoi (In-flight Meals) 

Depart Australia today on your Vietnam, China Southern, Malaysian Airlines (or other, subject to availability) full service flight to Hanoi, Vietnam.

Upon arrival, a tour representative and driver will meet you at the airport for your transfer to the hotel. Note: Due to flight times and scheduling, some customers may be required to depart on the day before (day 0). Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure in Hanoi!

 

Day 2:

Hanoi Sapa & Cat Cat Village (B, L, D) 

After an early breakfast, your coach will depart from the hotel and travel to Sapa (approx. 4-hours). On arrival into Sapa, be met by your guide and escorted to the hotel for check-in and lunch. Then, set off on a short trek to the gate of Cat Cat Village; home of the Black H’mong people and located in a deep valley at the foot of Fansipan Peak. Your local guide will point out unique daily activities of the locals. Trek down to the valley bottom and waterfall, view the French-built Hydraulic Power Station and take advantage of some photo stops before the walk back up to the bus.

Total walking time approx. 3-hours over 5 to 6-kilometres, walking difficulty 4/10, some moderate gradients.

Return to Sapa in the late afternoon to have dinner at the restaurant.

 

Day 3:

Linh Ho – Lao Chai – Ta Van – Hanoi (B, L, D) 

Have breakfast at the hotel and prepare a light bag for today’s walk. Trek at an easy pace from Sapa to Y Linh Ho, then walk through rice terraces and along Muong Hoa Stream to the Black Hmong Village of Lao Chai. Enjoy the spectacular landscape of Hoang Lien Son Mountain.

After 2 to 3-hours of comfortable walking, rest and have a picnic lunch at Lao Chai Village, before heading on to Ta Van village – home of the Dzay people. The bus will pick you up mid-afternoon and transfer you to the bus to return to Hanoi for the evening.

Total walking time approx. 3-hours over 5 to 6-kilometres, walking difficulty 4/10, some moderate gradients.

 

Day 4:

Hanoi – Halong Bay (approx. 175-kilometres) (B, L, D) 

After breakfast this morning, depart for Halong Bay. Cross the fertile Red River delta to reach the coast just before noon. Embark on an overnight cruise in the legendary seascape of Halong Bay. On board, enjoy delicious seafood-based buffet lunch, with the iconic limestone rocks as your background. In the afternoon the boat will visit Sung Sot Cave and Titov Island for time to relax and soak up the scenery. The program can vary based on time of the year and weather. End the day out on the deck for sunset before dinner.

Overnight: Onboard in a comfortable private cabin with attached bathroom.

Please note: Cruise itinerary and schedule are subject to change due to weather, tide levels and operating conditions. Swimming or kayaking excursions may be cancelled due to poor weather. Unused services are not subject to a refund. 

 

Day 5:

Halong Bay – Hanoi (approx. 170-kilometres) (B, L) 

At dawn, an early Tai Chi session is available on deck, before breakfast is served. There is a chance to kayak in the calm waters of Drum Cave before checking out. The boat then cruises through Halong Bay, passing the traditional Ba Hang fishing village, the serene Dog Islet and other scenic areas. Experience a simple cooking demonstration before enjoying your lunch, then disembarking for your transfer back to Hanoi.

 

Day 6:

Hanoi (B) 

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and free time to explore Hanoi today. The compact Old City is easy to explore on your own, with lovely winding lanes, bustling traditional and modern restaurants and great shopping. Or, choose to take an optional tour:

 

Hanoi City Tour (approx. 6-hours): After pick-up at approx. 8.30am, enjoy a guided city tour, visiting many famous local landmarks including One Pillar Pagoda, Temple of Literature, Ho Chi Minh’s childhood stilt home, West and Hoan Kiem Lakes. Enjoy lunch in Hanoi’s Old Quarter, included in your tour.

Hanoi City Vintage Motorcycle Culture and Food Tour (4-hours): At 8.00am or 12.30pm at the hotel, meet your experienced local driver for a safety briefing, then set off on the back of your vintage MINSK motorcycle. Ride into the heart of the city visiting local markets and little-known side streets. Drive alongside Ho Chi Minh’s iconic sights, including 1000 -year old Buddhist temples of Tran Quoc, the enchanting French Quarter, bustling Old Quarter, romantic lakes of Hoan Kiem and Hanoi Opera House. Then, experience a change of pace by travelling through rural villages on the outskirts of the city, before concluding with a food tour of several local restaurants serving fantastic traditional and authentic regional specialities (one pillion passenger per motorcycle).

Evening Street Food Walking Tour (approx. 3-hours and 4-kilometres walking): From 6.00pm, experience a guided walk through the intriguing Old Quarter which is still sectioned by the traditional guilds (trades) and is home to an abundance of street food outlets. Day 7:

Hanoi – Fly – Australia (B, In-flight Meals)

Day 7:
Hanoi –   – Danang (B)
After breakfast, check out and be transferred to the airport for your short flight to Danang. Upon arrival, be met and transferred to Hoi An (approx. 30-kilometres). Along the way stop at Marble Mountain to explore on your own for about an hour. The mountain, also known as Son Tra, is home to a beautiful marble statue of the Lady Buddha visible from anywhere on the Da Nang beach front. Here enjoy the serenity and beautiful panoramic view of the Da Nang coastline.
After that, you will be transferred to Hoi An, check-in at your hotel and relax at your leisure.
Day 8:
Hoi An (B)
Enjoy a full day of free time to wander the markets, streets and winding lanes of Hoi An. The town is deservedly famous for its excellent art, clothing and uniquely Vietnamese artefacts. Hoi An also has a thriving café and restaurant scene to sample from, or choose the optional evening dinner cruise below:
Optional Candlelit Dinner Cruise: At 4.30pm be collected from the Chic Hotel in a vintage army Jeep and drive to Thu Bon River dock to board the cruise. The river is a hive of activity as the sun sets and acts as a highway in this city.
After relaxing with a glass of wine, observing all the river has to offer, your 6-course ‘an com gia dinh’ or ‘family meal’ will be served at 5.30pm as the river and surrounding countryside is bathed in orange by the sun setting beyond the distant mountains. Ahead of you is the UNESCO town of Hoi An. From 6.30pm, hundreds of colored lanterns hanging from centuries old buildings create a kaleidoscope of colours reflecting off the river as the candles float downstream to greet you and lead you into the heart of the old town. Here you can linger or take the Jeep back to your hotel.
Day 9:
Hoi An (B)
Relax with a leisurely breakfast at the hotel this morning before taking advantage of more free time to explore Hoi An and its surrounds. Admire the centuries-old, ornate Chinese architecture while you wander the alleys and riverfront. Alternatively, choose the following optional Bicycle and Cooking Class (also available on Day 8). You may also choose to take the Optional Candlelit Dinner cruise tonight.
Optional Morning Bicycle & Cooking Class (available Day 8 or Day 9):
After breakfast at your hotel, meet your chef and guide at 8.30am. Ride your bicycle with the group to the nearby Hoi An market. Choose fresh ingredients to take with you to Tra Que village (approx. 15-minute cycle).  You will be welcomed with a drink before a short walk around the vegetable garden to see local farmers at work. Be pampered with a foot massage for 10 to 15-minutes, then you’ll learn how to cook local delicacies including banh xeo (pancakes) and tam huu (fresh spring rolls). After class, enjoy the delicious fruits of your labor the pedal back to arrive at your hotel by about 1.30pm.
NB: Guests wishing to participate in the cooking class but are unable to cycle can take a taxi directly to the cooking class in Tra Que. This will by-pass the market shopping experience and no discount is available for those taking a taxi.
Day 10:
My Son Sanctuary (B, Light Lunch)
After breakfast this morning, your bus and tour guide will collect you for the scenic drive (approx. 48-kilometres) to My Son Sanctuary – home to Hindu ruins dating as far back as the 4th Century.  Spend the next few hours exploring the complex, comprised of over 70 structures representing several eras and architectural disciplines.
At midday, join a boat trip up the Thu Bon river. Enjoy a light lunch on board and see outstanding views of the vistas from the water. Stop briefly at a riverside carpentry village to observe traditional building methods.
After returning to the boat dock, be transferred back to Hoi An for the evening at leisure.
Day 11:
Danang – Fly  – Australia (B, In-flight Meals)
Conclude your Northern Vietnam & Hoi An experience with a transfer to the airport for your flight home.

Have breakfast at the hotel and take advantage of free time to say a last farewell to Hoi An. Check out is at 12:00pm. Relax until your driver collects you for your transfer to the airport.
On arrival into Ho Chi Minh, be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day and evening is free for you to explore Ho Chi Minh.
Day 10:
Ho Chi Minh and Cu Chi Tunnel tour (B)
* Please bring water and a snack with you as this day trip does not include lunch
After an early breakfast, meet your driver for the 60-kilometre drive to Cu Chi. Take in the peaceful rural scenery as you drive between rice paddies. Be on the lookout for ducks and water buffalos swimming in the rivers alongside the road.
Cu Chi is now considered a heroic district for its role in the anti-American war in Vietnam, with its famous tunnel system extending over 220-kilometres. The tunnels served not only as an underground network for travel, but also contained the Viet Cong Headquarters, basic housing and even schools for the besieged local residents. After spending the morning learning about the area, your driver will transport you back to Ho Chi Minh City for an afternoon of free time to explore.
Day 11:
Ho Chi Minh and Mekong Delta Tour (B, L)
After an early breakfast, be collected and enjoy the scenic drive, bordered by green rice fields, to the Mekong Delta (70k-kilometres).
Once at My Tho, visit the lovely Vinh Trang pagoda. Take a leisurely boat ride along the river to view stilt houses, fruit plantations and fishing villages on the banks. Cruise to a quiet inlet for lunch in an orchard garden, then take a boat through the natural canals to An Khanh. Float onboard a hand-rowed sampan under the shadow of the water coconut trees, then enjoy seasonal fruit & honey tea to the sound of Southern Vietnamese folk music performed by locals. Visit a family business which epitomizes the idyllic rural lifestyle. Taste delicious coconut candy and observe pastoral life as you roam through the fruit plantation and village before being driven back to the city. Relax with free time for the rest of the day.
Day 12:
Ho Chi Minh – Fly  – Australia (B, In-flight Meals)
Check out this morning and be transferred to the airport for your flight home.

VISA
• A tourist visa is strictly required for Australian and most other nationalities travelling to Vietnam. Please request your preliminary tour documentation to begin your visa application no earlier than 8-weeks before departure. It is your responsibility to check all requirements with your local consulate, embassy or visa centre.
BAGGAGE POLICY
• Check your confirmed flight details for exact baggage allowances. However, you are strongly encouraged to pack lightly, below these limits as you will be required to carry your own bag between the coach and hotel rooms, and to and from any other transport while travelling to multiple cities and hotels.
FINAL DOCUMENTATION
• Electronic documentation including e-tickets are generally emailed within two weeks of departure of your core tour, irrespective of early departures, pre-tour extensions or stopovers.

TIPPING

• Reference hotels are listed and may be substituted with properties of a similar standard. Final hotels will be provided when you receive your final documentation. All hotel ratings are self-rated locally. All rooms are lead-in type. Triple-share is available in the form of extra bedding.
HALONG BAY CRUISE
• Premium and VIP Halong Bay cruise itineraries may vary slightly. Different bays and caves may be visited depending on tides, weather and timing.
CHILD POLICY
• This tour is not suitable for persons under 12-years. Children over 12 must be accompanied by an adult and will pay full fare for all services.

TRIPLE SHARE
• Triple share is available in the form of extra bedding. There is no extra charge or discount for triple share.

REFUND POLICY

• All costs and fees are non-refundable.

GROUP SIZE
• Minimum 2 passengers required to operate, maximum 35 passengers per vehicle.
OPTIONAL PROGRAMS
• Optional programs are subject to availability, time and weather permitting, and are prepayable in AUD at the point of purchase. Some tours require minimum numbers to operate. Non-participants must wait at the venue for the group to conclude the activity.
BREAKAWAY POLICY
• It is a condition of booking that you must always remain with the tour group and guide for the entirety of the tour. Any departure or deviation from the set tour itinerary is strictly prohibited. Penalties including cancellation of remaining accommodation and other arrangements will be enforced.
BREAK FEE
• A ‘break fee’ for early arrivals, stay behind or stopovers is collected for any deviations from the set dates and group tickets. Transfers are not included for arrivals and departures outside of the set group arrangements.
TRANSFERS
• Group transfers are at designated times. Transfers outside designated group arrangements incur additional costs. No refunds are provided for unused transfers.
CURRENCY
• Exchanging some local currency (Vietnamese Dong) before leaving home is advisable. Both USD and the local currency can be used for optional programs, tipping, shopping and expenses of a personal nature.
COMPLAINTS POLICY
• All efforts must be made to resolve issues on tour with the tour leader. Formal complaints must be submitted within 14 days of tour completion.
DIETARY
• Special meals are generally not available on tour. Please notify your guide of any special dietary requirements. Certain meals can be requested for the flights at the time of booking, subject to availability.
FITNESS
• A basic level of fitness is required for full days of brisk walking with intermittent breaks. This tour is not suitable for people requiring assistance or walking aid.
WEATHER
• Hanoi and North Vietnam have a distinct winter and summer season. The cool but mostly dry winter lasts from November to April when temperatures average 17-22°C with the coldest months being January – March. Summer lasts from May to October when it is hot, humid and the region experiences its highest rainfall.
• Hoi An & Danang in the centre of Vietnam have hot and dry weather from mid-January to late August, with temperatures often reaching around 35°C. During the winter months, the rainfall increases, with October and November achieving peak levels.
• The climate of the south including Ho Chi Minh is split into two simple seasons, wet and dry. The dry season begins in November and ends in April to early May with late February to May being slightly hotter and more humid. The wet season lasts from May until early November with the months from June, July and August receiving the highest rainfall of the year. Throughout much of the wet season rainfall is generally heavy but short lasting, often occurring in a mid-afternoon heavy downpour. The average temperatures in the south range between 25 – 35°C year-round.
